SAT Format & Scoring
Total Score Range: 400–1600 (combining two sections)
Sections:
Reading & Writing (200–800 points)
Math (200–800 points)
Duration: 2 hours, 14 minutes (now there is a digital format of the SAT)
Question Type: Multiple-choice and student-produced response (for math)
Offered: 7 times per year (March, May, June, August, October, November, December)
You should probably start taking it every year starting in 8th grade!
SAT Statistics
Average SAT Score for 2023 was about ~1028
Top 10% Score: 1350+ (this is totally doable)
Less than 1% of test-takers get a Perfect Score of 1600 - besides we aren’t looking for perfection, we want to pass and get into a college somewhere… anywhere!

The SAT is used by thousands of colleges to evaluate applicants, and while it’s no longer required at all schools, a strong SAT score can boost college admissions chances and scholarship opportunities, especially if your grades aren’t all that!
