Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters
Oh my gosh, I was so excited to finish this calendar for the Kinders, we study Zimbabwe in December, so we read Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters, discussed the image of beauty in different cultures, built the village out of clay (air dry works best), experimented with making "dry wall", made rice patties and millet pies, felt snakes and read a little too!
This is our Social Studies class, and we have an hour a day allocated for it, but I'm sure you could squeeze whatever time you have and study the book... it's simply fabulous! It's an awesome tie in to folktales for you Reading Teachers :-)
We recommend reading the previous pages everyday up until the pages on the calendar. It's all about that repetition!
